KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The taste of JJ’s was at the center of a fundraiser for the employees of the restaurant, which was destroyed by an explosion on Feb. 19.
A ruptured gas line led to an explosion and a massive fire at JJ’s Restaurant on the plaza.
The blast killed one person and injured more than a dozen others, some seriously.
The explosion caused damage to nearby buildings as well.
Since then, a number of fundraisers have been held to help the employees of JJ’s.
On Sunday, hundreds of people packed into the American in Crown Center to support the JJ’s employees. Many of which attended the fundraiser.
For $60, folks could partake in a sampling of the favorite foods from the JJ’s menu.
One JJ’s server said he’s amazed by how supportive everyone has been.
“This is phenomenal. This one more instance of the community coming together to support us,” the employee said.
A silent auction was also held to raise money for those affected by the explosion.
