OLENTANGY, Ohio – A teacher has been fired after she said she scolded a student for bullying others.
Nicole LeMire, who has been a teacher for 14 years, said she was aware of a student at Glen Oak Elementary School blowing mucus on other kids and using inappropriate language, according to WCMH-TV in Columbus.
She also noticed him push another student to the ground.
“I said ‘do you know how your actions and your words are hurting other students and your friends,’” she said. “That’s it.”
She was placed on leave within a few days before the board then decided to terminate her.
Many parents and friends came to speak at the board meeting on LeMire’s behalf, but she was still fired.
According to WCMH, the school board’s resolution says LeMire, “asked students in her classroom to take turns saying how the student (“Student A”) had acted badly, violated rules or insulted them, and/or why Student A was annoying or had no friends. Ms. LeMire required Student A to listen to classmates’ complaints and refused to allow him to respond or defend himself against potentially embellished complaints.”
LeMire said she plans to pursue legal action going forward.
