LIBERTY, Mo. — The boy accused of beating a Liberty Middle School boy appeared in court Thursday.
The judge ruled that the 14-year-old be put into the custody of the Missouri Division of Youth Services, who will evaluate which treatment will work best for him.
While in court, the judge pointed at him and told him he needed to get his anger under control.
FOX 4’s Megan Brilley spoke to the family of the victim, Blake Kitchen, but Kitchen’s mother, Destiny, said she was too overwhelmed to speak on television.
Destiny said she was happy with the punishment and hopes the teen gets the help he needs.
“I am. I’m so blessed because if the kid would’ve kept hitting him…he would’ve killed him,” Destiny told FOX 4 back in February. “He would’ve killed him. I would’ve been sitting here talking to you guys about my dead son. That’s really scary.”
The victim’s family was present in the court room. The family said their stomachs were churning as they looked at the 14-year-old who changed their son’s life forever.
12-year-old Blake Kitchen was brutally attacked at school in February. Witnesses said that Kitchen was punched and his head was thrown into a table by the 14-year-old.
Kitchen was beaten so badly that he lost hearing in one of his ears. Kitchen also suffered a jaw line fracture and fractured skull during the attack.
