KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Two people have been arrested and charged with the shooting death of 17-year-old Ramon Bradley.

One suspect, is a 16-year-old boy, who is not being identified due to his age. He has been charged with first-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle and criminal use of weapons in connection with the Oct. 21, 2012 shooting death of Bradley.

The second suspect, 20-year-old Bobby Hale, Jr., is charged with first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle. He is being held in the Wyandotte county jail in lieu of $500,000.

Bradley’s mother, Ramona Bradley, said she is surprised police made the arrests so quickly.

“Relief. Honestly, I’m shocked that all of this unfolded so swiftly,” she said. “His funeral hasn’t even been completely planned, his obituary hasn’t even been completed.”

The shooting happened near Third and Minnesota just after midnight on Sunday, Oct. 21. Bradley had been at the JFK Community Center with friends earlier in the night. Family members said a car pulled up next to the car Bradley was in and started shooting. He was the only one hit.

Ramona said she doesn’t recognize the man police arrested and doesn’t believe her son was the intended target.

“I’m angry,” she said. “I’m angry and more than anything I just want to know why. That is my main question: Why? What was the reason he was shooting at their vehicle?”

The district attorney’s office has filed a motion to have the boy who was arrested for the shooting certified to stand trial as an adult.

Ramona said she plans to be in court if the case goes to trial.
