OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — FOX 4 has learned Overland Park police are investigating new allegations against the Leawood man accused of following a woman home as he drove with a ski mask on.
Police have been in contact with one other woman after she came forward to FOX 4 and said 18-year-old Eric Kaplan stalked her in the past, too.
Kaplan faces misdemeanor counts of stalking, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident Monday night.
An Overland Park woman told FOX 4 she was leaving the Price Chopper at 135th and Mission Road around 11 p.m when she noticed a man in a black BMW following her. The woman asked FOX 4 to protect her identity, but says at one point she drove into a cul-de-sac to circle around in order to see the driver’s face.
“That’s when I noticed he was in a full black ski mask,” said the victim. She immediately called police who told her to drive towards the closest police station near 125th and Metcalf.
Police pulled over Kaplan and according to the victim, found some incriminating items in his car.
“They found the black ski mask and they had also found a knife, gloves, lubrication, drugs and drug paraphernalia.”
Police are praising the victim’s quick thinking. She warns other women to “go with your instinct. If you feel that something is wrong, then go with that instinct definitely, don’t go home and you can always call 911. It’s not like they’re going to hang up on you or be mad about it.”
The victim told FOX 4 she bought Mace after the incident. She suspects too many women in Johnson County assume they’re safe because of where they live.
“Oh I’m in southern Johnson County. It’s safe out here — nothing happens and go into the store that late, you’re fine. Come to find out this kid lives just a couple miles from me,” said the victim.
