SEATTLE, Wash. — Alonza Bryant reported hearing a “bang” right before her nose started bleeding. The 16-year-old had fallen asleep on her couch, but hadn’t taken her glasses off. It was a bit of forgetfulness that police tell KIRO may have saved her life.

Seattle police say that Bryant’s home was targeted by gangsters in a drive-by shooting. When she looked in the mirror, she saw a bullet lodged in her forehead above the bridge of her nose. Police stated in a press release that the glasses deflected the bullet from directly striking her.

“I don’t know why somebody did this to me, to our family… shoot our house,” Bryant told KIRO.

Police said the home was targeted because an occupant is involved in gang activity, but Bryant was not the intended target. The assertion of gang activity in the home was denied by Bryant’s mother, LaVette. While she’s irate at what happened, she’s thankful her daughter is still alive.

“Glasses saved her life, I believe that and I thank God for that,” LaVette Bryant told KIRO.

Multiple shell casings were recovered and bullet holes riddled the home’s siding. KIRO reports that several others including children were in the home at the time, but nobody else was injured.
