KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The best spellers in Jackson and Clay counties were at the library Saturday, to see who’s going to represent them in Washington DC.

Sophia Hoffman is the winner of the Jackson-Clay County spelling bee. She will go to Washington DC. Her winning word was “nomancy,” which means to divine by people’s names.
