KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is urging Missourians to not buy health insurance through the Affordable Care Act exchange.

Many Republicans believe it will fail and only time will tell the full impact of the federally mandated health insurance.

The Marketplace officially opens on October first…that is when you will find prices for various health care plans online.

Blue Cross Blue Shield KC and Coventry are the two health insurance companies we know of offering health insurance through the marketplace.

Blue KC in Zona Rosa plans to release details of the health plans it will offer later on Tuesday.

But we are learning of a glitch that could leave many children uninsured.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, a family without health insurance pays more than $16,000 per year for coverage.

Employers usually cover two thirds of that cost while the employee pays on average around $4500 annually.

According to USA Today, the Family Glitch applies to unmarried women with children.

An employer can choose to cover the woman but not her children, and since her children would not be eligible to get insurance through the marketplace, they could remain uninsured…unless the mother is willing to pay high fees to get them covered.
The penalty for not getting health insurance is $95 a year, though these women would not be penalized for not covering their children.

There are calls for Congress to get this cleared up, but they’re dealing with a budget battle and Republicans are against the Affordable Health Care Act, so there is concern nothing will be done to fix it and leave more than half a million kids uninsured.
