KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The number of homicides in 2014 is at the lowest level since 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Police recorded 77 homicides, but for some that’s still too many especially for families of murder victims.
“I cringe every time I hear that because lives are still being lost and it is traumatic no matter how the numbers are,” said Nae-Na Oliver of AdHoc.
AdHoc Group Against Crime members chose to start the new year by celebrating the lives of last year.
“My children lost their father Feb 1, 1996. It does not sting or burn the way that it did that day because there has been healing processes during that time,” said Oliver.
The activist group gathered for a prayer vigil and then released balloons with the names of victims written on them.
