TAMPA — Her family calls her the Mitt Stabilizer. Ann Romney, who is someone who is known to be able to calm her husband down when needed, took center stage Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention, and tried to paint a more personal picture of her husband of 43 years.

The couple met as high schoolers in Michigan.

“We are each other’s best friend in addition to being, you know, our, you know, loving relationship. We are each other’s best friends as well,” she said. She described their marriage as “a real partnership.”

Together she and her husband have struggled through her breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Her speech Tuesday provided a personal side to the Republican presidential candidate, and targeted the female vote.

“The last few years have been harder than they needed to be. It’s all the little things. The price at the pump you just can’t believe. The grocery bills that just get bigger. All those things that used to be free. Like school sports are now one more bill to play. It’s all the little things that pile up to become big things. And the big things the good jobs, the chance at college that home you want to buy just get harder. Everything has become harder. We’re too smart to know there aren’t easy answers but we’re not dumb enough to accept that there aren’t better answers,” she said. Then after a long and enthusiastic applause, Anne finished:

And… that is where this boy I met at a high school dance comes in. His name is Mitt Romney and you should really get to know him.
