LEAWOOD, Kan. — Firefighters confirmed 53-year-old Diane Jakobe who was critically injured in a Leawood house fire on Tuesday died Thursday night from her injuries.

Fire broke out at her home in the 9400 block of Meadow Lane in Leawood Tuesday evening. The Johnson County Emergency Communications Center said that emergency crews were dispatched at about 6:30 p.m.

The fire started inside the home and burned for more than an hour and a half. Firefighters found Jakobe unconscious. She was resuscitated by paramedics and sent to the hospital in critical condition. Two firefighters were injured with lacerations and had to get stitches after breaking glass to enter the home.

Firefighters said the age of the home acted as a hindrance as multiple layers on the roof helped keep the fire in and kept it burning.

The cause remains under investigation.
