MERRIAM, Kan. — Two dogs, now named Itchy and Scratchy because they are infested with fleas, are receiving urgent care, including a blood transfusion, after someone threw them from a moving truck on Wednesday.
They were taped inside a cardboard box that was labeled “Garage Sale”. Thankfully, a person driving behind the truck noticed a head pop out of the box and stopped.
The driver/rescuer took the dogs to the Merriam Veterinary Care Center. They were then transferred to BluePearl Veterinary Partners for a blood transfusion.
The dogs are in very poor condition.
Itchy is a Shih Tzu mix, approximately one-year old. Scratchy is a brown Chihuahua mix, approximately five-years old.
They are too skinny, so emaciated that you can see their backbones. We’re told the skin inside their ears and gums are snow white.
And they have a terrible case of fleas.
Great Plains SPCA is hoping for donations to cover the cost of bringing them back to good health.
