NEWARK, N.J. — The Portland Trail Blazers drafted Kansas Jayhawks senior point guard Tyshawn Taylor with the 11th pick in the second round of the NBA draft on Thursday night. He was later traded to the Brooklyn Nets.
This season, Taylor helped lead the Jayhawks to their eighth straight Big 12 Championship, and an appearance against Kentucky in the NCAA National Championship. He averaged 19.1 points and 4.9 assists per game. The 6-4 native of Jersey City, NJ will play close to home as a member of the Brooklyn Nets.
Taylor became the 15th player to be drafted in the Bill Self era at Kansas. He was preceded by the selection of teammate Thomas Robinson, who was selected 5th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the fist round.
This season, both Taylor and Robinson were first team All-Big 12 selections.
