KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The 59-year-old man who was shot to death by authorities on Friday has been identified.

Officers  were at the scene of a fatal shooting on Friday in the 8700 block of 97th Terrace where the U.S. Marshal was reportedly involved. Police said the suspect, later identified on Saturday as Fred Liggett, 59, showed a gun and was shot by officers inside the home.

Police said the Liggett died from his injuries.

Kansas City, Mo., Police Chief Darryl Forte tweeted about the incident just after 1 p.m. on Friday.

Chief Forte says that no KCPD officers were involved in the shooting.

According to police the U.S. Marshal was working with the task force to serve a federal warrant issued for aggravated indecencies with a child out of Johnson County.

On Friday the U.S. Marshals were leading the investigation with assistance from the Overland Park police department.
