KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City girl, publicly known as ‘LP’, found malnourished and locked in a closet in the summer of 2012 is still not out of danger. Her uncle told FOX 4 on Monday that the 12-year-old had a heart transplant a few months ago.
While published reports say LP’s heart condition stems from years of being deprived food, her uncle said that heart problems run in their family.
Jermak Prince, LP’s uncle, dismissed the notion that his niece’s severe malnutrition was the sole contributor to her needing a new heart. He said his great grandmother, his grandmother and his mother all died from heart related ailments.
Prince said he just wants his niece to get the physical and mental help she deserves. He said he and his family didn’t know the danger LP was in and blamed the state for giving the little girl back to his sister, Jacole, when she was removed from her home several years ago.
Prince said he’s not a doctor, but he also said you don’t need a degree to tell that his sister was not mentally sound.
Prince also said that his younger sister, Mozita Prince, is trying to get custody of LP and her two sisters. Mozita has four children of her own.
“Uncle Big Mac here baby, I love you and waiting for you to get out. We are pushing for you to get out, you are going to be alright,” Jermak Prince said.
Mozita Prince told FOX 4 that she has started the process to adopt her other nieces. She said she has a home assessment scheduled next week by the state and hopes to have the girls in her care very soon.
