KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Union workers at the General Motor’s Fairfax Assembly Plant approved a new local contract, averting a potential strike at the Kansas City, Kansas, facility.
The United Auto Workers local 31 approved the contract on Thursday. The new contract was approved by 57 percent of production workers and 70 percent of skilled trade workers, according to the union.
In January, workers rejected a contract proposal and voted to authorize a strike if necessary.
The Fairfax Assembly Plant employs over 4,000 people, and produces both the Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse.
