KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A small pre-school tucked into a corner of Kansas City is changing the way children learn. The inspiration for Bambini Creativi comes from post-war Italy.
The environment is considered one of the teachers at the school. There are lush winter gardens, fountains and birds. Kids are taught to explore, socialize and even set the table for their own snack time. And, they love it! The parents love it too!
“She is learning a lot through play which is definitely the goal,” said pre-school parent Annie Watson.
Another parent agrees.
“There is nothing they say don’t touch,” said parent Craig Novorr. “She can explore and learn and play as she goes from station to station.”
The education model is named after a small town in Nothern Italy. It was devastated after World War II. The first thing the townspeople did was rebuild their school.
Children are taught as individuals at the school and much of what they learn is documented through photographs. Teachers also take extensive notes on what the children say.
The teachers want the kids to have confidence and lasting love for learning once they leave the school.
