OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Workers are still on the scene of a gas explosion that happened shortly before 8 p.m on Friday night in Overland Park, Kan.
Crews from Overland Park Fire were called to the intersection of 151st & Switzer, where Atmos Gas reported a fire involving a gas line. Atmos crews digging in the area apparently struck a 4-inch line which started on fire. Flames shot high enough to damage street lights and nearby equipment. Fire crews cleared the area and stood by, while Atmos crews worked to stop the flow of gas. No injuries were reported.
The Overland Park Police Department issued a press release urging the public to practice caution while traveling through that area and asked that everyone remain patient. According to the release, various crews will continue to work through the night and are expected to be done repairing the line around 5:30 a.m Sunday morning.
