KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Local postal employees are making Sunday deliveries to keep up with the holiday demand.
The post office on Platte Purchase Road in the northland resembles Santa’s workshop.
Jeff Drake serves as Kansas City, Missouri Postmaster and says his offices are delivering 60,000 more packages than it did a year ago. This year many delivery workers are managing six day schedules to accommodate for the extra workload.
“When we first started, people were surprised to see us on Sundays. Now, they’re very happy to have us on Sundays especially these next two. I’m sure they’ll be very appreciative to get them out on these days before they start traveling,” said Drake.
Drake says he has hired 40 more seasonal workers than he did in 2013; all meant to handle Sunday package deliveries.
