KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A local HIV/AIDS organization is raising awareness and giving couples an alternative way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Kansas City’s Millennial League is hosting a “Scary Carrie Val-O-Ween Prom” on Friday, February 10. Party-goers are being urged to wear scary prom attire to the event. Local punk band “Beautiful Bodies” is the headlining act.

The proceeds will go to Kansas City’s AIDS Service Foundation then given to local AIDS service organizations. The group says between 2006-2009, HIV rates for people 13-29 went up by 21 percent, and that people under 30 make up the majority of new infections in the Metro.

The event is at Westport’s Beaumont Club, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance via Ticketmaster, and $25 at the door. They can be purchased through the Millennial League’s website.
