KANSAS CITY, Kan. — One person was killed Tuesday morning when a van crashed into an auto shop at 79th and State Ave.

Kansas City, Kan. Police were investigating how the crash happened at Calvert’s Express Auto Service.

Workers at the shop said they discovered the van, which had smashed into the back of the building creating a giant hole, when they came into work on Tuesday morning. A police spokesperson told FOX 4 that it’s believed the vehicle ran into the building sometime overnight or in the early morning hours.

At 7:30 a.m. when police arrived they said no one was inside of the vehicle, but when they went to pull the it away from the building, they found a person dead, pinned between the van and structure.

“At first just treating it as an accident, didn’t see anybody around. As we began to pull the car away from the building, we found a white male deceased underneath the vehicle,” said Officer Thomas Tomasic, with the KCK Police Department.

Police are still investigating, but are calling the man’s death suspicious. They are in the process of collecting and reviewing surveillance video from surrounding businesses. So far there are no suspects in this case.
