KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Vietnam veteran says, for the fourth time this month, someone has spray painted his fence and he says it’s more than just an eyesore.
Don Gipe says he woke up Memorial Day to find a 150 foot section of his 7 foot fence marked with what he believes is gang-related graffiti. Gipe says it was like a slap in the face to have someone deface his fence on a holiday marked to celebrate veterans.
“Memorial Day is a tribute to the veterans from all the wars,” Gipe said. “I think this is a definite disrespect.”
This is the 12th time in three years that someone has vandalized his fence and he doesn’t know why he’s being targeted, he said. Every time it has happened, Gipe said he has filed a police report, but so far police have not found the person or people responsible.
“Sometimes they’ll come and just do it right again just to keep aggravating me,” Gipe said.
The Vietnam Veteran says he’s been able to get free paint from the Kansas City recycling center but it’s still labor intensive to paint the fence.
Gipe hopes whoever is responsible will see him on FOX 4 and decide to respect his no trespassing sign and stay off of his property.
A neighbor thinks it’s unlikely and unfortunate that this keeps happening to Gipe.
“It can really be an eyesore to tell you the truth,” said neighbor Caleb Barber. “If he doesn’t paint over it, then he might get ticketed or fined or something so it’s just an ongoing battle.”
