KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A woman is out of the hospital and back at home after she said her girlfriend chewed off her lip during an argument. Monqiue Wright said doctors had to use skin and tissue from one side of her lip to try and repair the portion bitten off.
Police arrested Wright’s girlfriend, but because charges have not been filed, FOX 4 is not releasing her name. Police have released the suspect in the case and according the Wyandotte District Attorney’s Office, the case remains open pending an investigation.
However, Wright said she isn’t pressing charges and doesn’t want her girlfriend to get in trouble. She also wants to continue the relationship.
“She had been drinking, and she got drunk so quick, it was kind of both our fault,” said Wright.
Wright said the two have been dating for more than two years and recently moved into an apartment together.
“I just don’t want anything bad to happen to her, because deep down inside my heart and in her heart, I know she didn’t mean to hurt me like this,” said Wright.
According to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four woman experience domestic violence in their life. That statistic crosses both straight and same sex relationships. The Kansas City Anti-Violence Project says while concrete numbers are not available, there is more of a risk of violence in same sex relationships because of an oppressed lifestyle.
