PLATTE CITY, Mo. – The board of alderman in Platte City voted to keep a city ordinance banning exotic animals on Tuesday night, meaning that an area family with a pet wallaby will need to find a new home.
Noah the wallaby escaped from its family’s home on Thanksgiving Day in 2011. Emily Wood and her family have been fighting to get the animal back since then.
The board said after little discussion on Tuesday night, they are siding with the recommendations by the public safety committee put forward last week. The committee members said they didn’t want to open the door to something that might create future concerns for public safety.
Wood says she plans to bring up the issue at another meeting.
Noah is currently being held at the Kansas City Zoo. A zoo spokesperson told FOX 4 that the family can take the wallaby back and take him out of city limits where he is allowed.
But Wood, has started a petition and facebook page to try to get support, says at this point moving is not an option for the family.
