OLATHE, Kan. – An Olathe Northwest High school music teacher accidentally fell down a flight of stairs in June, hurting her spinal cord, and leaving her unable to move. To help with her financial burden, a special concert is being planned for Rosa Adams-Bussard or “Mrs. B” to show that her students are “With Rosa.”
Music is Rosa Adams-Bussard’s first love.
“The music…lives with her,” said student Jake Paugh.
“Music is her life,” said friend Ed Colson.
This high school band director inspires more than musicians, though, she inspires spirits.
“She’s pushed me to be the best I can in everything,” said student Gabbie Baiza.
“I wake up every single day and I tell myself, I’m going to be the best I can be at everything I do,” said student Alex Souvannakhot.
“Mrs. B” doesn’t have any biological children, but she has hundreds of people who call her “Mom.”
“She has become my mom,” said Baiza. “I spend every second I can in here. I love her to death.”
So when her students found out about Mrs. B’s accident, they were devastated, but driven.
“It is our turn to take care of her,” Paugh said.
Mrs. B’s students are putting on a concert to raise Mrs. B’s spirits and to raise money for her care.
The high school marching band is working in harmony with the Olathe Civic Band for a show called “We’re With Rosa.”
It’s a way to show Rosa she’s got an army of musicians who believe in her.
“I know that she’s determined, and she’ll come back strong,” Souvannakhot said.
They say “We’re With Rosa” because rosa is always with them.
“We’re With Rosa” will be Sunday, August 5th at 2:00 p.m. At Olathe Northwest High School. Admission is free.
