KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After fire tore through Westport Presbyterian Church in late December, members of the congregation said they will rebuild — or repair their damaged building.
Two days after the fire, the congregation held Sunday services at the Second Presbyterian Church. Pastor Scott Meyer said the move is temporary.
“The question is, is there structural integrity to restore, or do we have to rebuild?” he said. “We are not going to know that for a little while.”

Structural engineers are expected to inspect the building. Until a plan is in place, Meyer said the church will continue to do everything they can to keep the community programs operational until the building is repaired — or rebuilt.
Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was accidental, caused by an air conditioning unit on the roof. Damages are estimated at between three and four million dollars.
