KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are looking for a suspect who robbed a Westport store and tied-up and threatened an employee in an attack captured on surveillance video.
The robbery happened on January 12th at the Verizon Wireless store at 4040 Mill Street in Westport. According to store clerk 25-year-old Baily Vanderhagen, the suspect walked into the store shortly after it opened around 9:00 a.m. She says that the suspect then started asking questions that didn’t make any sense.
When she told him to leave, she says he took out a gun and demanded money.
Vanderhagen says that the suspect took her to the back room, where he tied her up and tried to disable the surveillance system. Before he left, Vanderhagen says that the suspect made an ominous threat.
“He didn’t take my driver’s license when he first dumped the purse out,” said Vanderhagen. “But he took my driver’s license before he left. He told me he knew where I lived, and told me if I called cops, he would find me and kill me.”
In the surveillance video, Vanderhagen is seen hopping around the store because the suspect tied her up three times and kept changing his mind about where to leave her.
The suspect left the store with $75 from Vanderhagen’s purse, and another $200 from the store’s register. He, however, did not take any of the electronics – leaving several iPhones and iPads behind.
Vanderhagen says that police told her that they know the suspect – the Verizon store is the third store he’s robbed in recent weeks – and there is a warrant out for his arrest, but they still haven’t located him yet.
