WESTWOOD, Kan. — Nine years ago on Wednesday, police in Westwood were called out to the scene of that city’s first recorded homicide. Today, police are asking for the public’s help in bringing the killer to justice.
David “Ray” Ninemire was working at the Westwood Apple Market store at 4701 Mission Road around 6:00 a.m. on August 15, 2003, when he was shot and killed during an armed robbery.
According to authorities, Ninemire was coming to the assistance of another employee who was being accosted by the robber when he was shot. While he was exiting the store through the front door, the suspect then shot and wounded another person who was walking in to the store.
The suspect was described as thin, about 5’5″, wearing a black hat, a fake beard, a black medium length coat and black pants. He was last seen walking east from the store along West 47th Street and then north on Lloyd Street into Kansas City, Kansas.
