KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The wife of Alvin Brooks, longtime community activist in Kansas City, has passed away.

In a statement released by City Councilman Jermain Reed, Carol Brooks passed away peacefully shortly before midnight on Sunday, July 21 surrounded by family.  She was 78.

“I offer my deepest condolences to the Brooks family,” Reed said. “Blessed with the opportunity to grow up in her presence, I marveled as Carol served as a rock for her family, and a pillar of strength for her husband Alvin Brooks. During these difficult times, I encourage the Kansas City community to join me in offering up thoughts and prayers to the Brooks family.”

Services arrangements are pending. The family is requesting privacy during this time of bereavement.
