BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Missouri and Kansas wildlife officials were hoping to bait you to the great outdoors this weekend. Saturday and Sunday were free fishing days. Through Sunday night anglers could fish without having to pay for a license.

It’s an effort to lure more people to the lake and the great outdoors, a way to give aspiring anglers a chance to try the sport without having to pay a fee.

Rashid Luster came to Lake Jacomo with his children, dad and friends Sunday morning. He said his kids are hooked.

“They’ve been asking to go fishing,” he said. “They enjoy it and I enjoy it. I went when I was younger.”

Luster’s son, David, said he turned down a trip to the amusement park to spend time with the guys.

“The girls go to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun and we go fishing,” said David. “It’s kind of quiet. I like it just to hang out with the guys.”

Sunday marks the end to National Fishing and Boating Week.
