KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man promised his girlfriend he’d get her a puppy if the Royals made the playoffs, and Katie Castan now has her dream dog to cuddle with as she cheers on the team.

puppyCastan held up a sign in the Wild Card game which had an arrow pointing to him and declaring his promise:  “If we win, he’s buying me a puppy.”

But it wasn’t all on the Royals.  There was another part of the deal. She had to name ten players on the team.

“I think it was just really a ploy for my boyfriend to get me to watch most of the games,” said Castan.

“They weren’t playing very well, they were struggling. I was getting a little grouchy and Kate wanted to change the channel,” said her boyfriend Joe Onofrio.

And when the Royals clinched the win on that Tuesday night, Castan also won big.

“It was a busy weekend but we are happy to say we are now the proud parents to a new dog!” Castan said in an email to FOX 4.

Lucy and Katie

“This whole thing has been a pretty surreal experience – so many people came out of the woodwork to try and help us find a puppy. It was incredibly generous and we couldn’t be more grateful. As you know, we were planning to visit KC Pet Project this past weekend, but last Thursday, a family of wonderful pet owners, who wish to remain anonymous, reached out to us,” she said.

Castan said she immediately fell in love with Lucy “Rally” Castan, a four-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, the dog of Castan’s dreams.

“Lucy is adjusting well. She likes walks and enjoyed watching her favorite team sweep the Angels. She is already looking forward to Bark at the Park next year where she can cheer on the Royals! Today is her first day at work for me and she is loving being in the office,” she said, and of course, concluded with “Go Royals!”
