KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Prosecutors charged 18-year-old Takydra West for the shooting death of Karyia Edmondson, 20. Police said Edmondson was shot an apartment in the 900 block of East Armour early Monday morning. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
Witnesses said after shooting Edmondson, West turned the gun on them and said, “You better not snitch.”

According to witnesses, West and Edmondson had argued over Edmondson returning a secure digital phone card to West. West allegedly put a handgun under Edmondson’s chin during the argument, but others intervened, knocking the gun out of West’s hand.
According to court documents, West then tried to choke Edmondson, but Edmondson managed to defend herself by punching West. Witnesses said West then left the apartment and returned with a gun and fired one shot at Edmondson. That’s when witnesses said West turned the gun on them and warned them not to snitch. But a few came forward, naming West in the incident.
“You hope things are changing and people are getting the message that it’s okay to be on the good side of things,” said Michael West, executive director of the AD HOC Group Against Crime.
Some witnesses told police that West and Edmondson committed a robbery together and that the SD card was a stolen item that West wanted but Edmondson refused to hand over.
