KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police arrested three people, two men and one juvenile, during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Kansas City on Thursday. In one incident about an hour into the parade, police noticed a man with a pistol in the front pocket of his sweatshirt. Police could see the outline of the weapon and arrested the man without any problems when he walked inside a nearby gas station near 38th Street and Broadway.
A short time later, police say several people at the parade saw another man with a gun. They alerted officers. Officers say the man ran through the crowd. Police confirmed in tweets that they were pursuing an armed man on foot from the McDonald’s on Broadway. They said he dropped the gun and they continued to look for him.
Within minutes they reported that they had the suspect in custody and also took another into custody.

One person said he saw a woman at the parade stick her foot out as one of the suspects was fleeing from police.
“She was able to trip him and the police were able to apprehend this individual. I literally have no words but thank you to that young lady. This group of individuals clearly were up to no good and all were armed. Again hats off to the KCPD,” said a Joshua James on Facebook.
FOX 4 asked Captain Tye Grant with KCPD if he could confirm whether the witness tripped the suspect but Grant claims the suspect tripped on his own and no witness had anything to do with it.
Police recovered both handguns and there were no injuries.
Police say the more than two-hour long parade was mostly peaceful. They also say they had a heavy presence there with officers on horses, ATVs, on foot and in motorized golf carts.
FOX 4 will have more on the commotion at the parade on FOX 4 newscasts and as new information comes in on fox4kc.com.
