KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A 43-year-old woman is dead — likely murdered during a domestic dispute, Kansas City, Kan., police said on Wednesday. Officers are now looking for her boyfriend who also lived in the house near North 28th and Oakland in Kansas City, Kan.

Another roommate, a female, found Sharon Nero shortly after 7 a.m. and called police.

When family members found out what happened, they raced to the home in disbelief. Filled with emotion and grief, they cried out in despair.

“She was violated in her own home by someone she trusted and if you have any remorse you turn yourself in,” said Nero’s son, Shawn Nero.

Sharon Nero leaves behind four children and nine grandchildren, her family said.

“This did not need to happen. We need closure today. Right now,” said the Sharon Nero’s daughter, Theresa Griswold.

Police are now looking for the victim’s boyfriend, who may be driving a 2004 four-door, gold Chevy Malibu with dark, tinted windows and Missouri license plate number UG1-P3W.

“At the end of the day we want people to know she was loved and she’ll always be in our hearts,” Shawn said.

A chaplain with the police department was there to listen as the family grieved.

“They’re out there to catch the bad guys,” Pastor David Burnworth said. “They call us in to care for those who have been wounded in these situations.”

One neighbor said she never heard anything to make her believe anything was wrong Wednesday morning.

“The cops came knocking on my door about 7:30 this morning and asked me if I heard anybody screaming or asking for help or fighting,” said Ashley Beggs, neighbor. “I said no because they have been pretty quiet.”

Beggs said the boyfriend admitted there were problems with the relationship, that his girlfriend thought there was something going on between him and their other roommate.

“There was just some concern about if her friend that had move in, if there was stuff going on between the two of them, but she hasn’t lived there that long, probably not more than two weeks,” Beggs said.
