KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A bullet remains lodged in a woman’s shoulder after she was shot while driving near 71-Highway and Bannister Road Monday afternoon. Patty Moore, 68, was heading to the hospital to visit her husband Lonnie. Within moments, police say suspected cop killer Curtis Ayers was speeding away from police when he fired at Moore’s car with a shotgun.
She was hit twice in the shoulder on the day after Mother’s Day.
“I had just been to her house to bring her her card and gift and give her a big hug and tell her that I love her,” said Elishia Hesterburg, her daughter.
Moore told her family that just before she was shot, she was praying in her car as she was driving.

“She’s a very strong, church-going woman,” said Hesterburg.
Her daughter says God heard her mom’s prayers.
“I think it’s an answered prayer for sure,” said Hesterburg.
Moore’s daughter says the doctors have left the shotgun shot in her shoulder, saying it’s too risky to remove right now.
“She works out every morning so all of her little work-out friends are probably missing her,” Hesterburg said.

As they care for their mother, Moore’s daughters are also thinking and praying for the family of Brad Lancaster, killed after responding to a call about a suspicious person near Hollywood Casino.
“Prayers and love and comfort,” said Paula Hutchison, Moore’s daughter. “I understand he sacrificed every day and I’m grateful.”
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced charges against Ayers on Tuesday morning for his actions while fleeing police. Ayers is charged with 1st degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting arrest.
Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 cash bond.
Wyandotte County prosecutors have not yet announced charges for the initial shooting that claimed the life of Det. Brad Lancaster.
