LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Police are investigating a deadly wreck that claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman. She died late Wednesday morning when her car went off the road and hit a utility pole at 7th and Olive in Leavenworth, Kan.
According to the Leavenworth Times, Lachelle Kemp got out of the car and died after getting tangled up in the electrical wires.
A three-year-old boy and infant girl were in the car when it happened.
Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens told the Leavenworth Times that police believe Lachelle stepped out of the car to try to get her children out when she became entangled in the live power lines.
Witnesses gathered around the crash and said their was an explosion and evidence of live electricity.
Someone reportedly removed the power lines from her before emergency crews arrived.
Police have not determined what caused Lachelle to veer off the road and into the pole.
