EASTON, Pa. — After giving birth in the restroom of a sports bar, police said a 26-year-old Pennsylvania woman left her newborn son in the toilet tank where he later died.
When questioned by police, Amanda Catherine Hein admitted that she gave birth in the restroom. Hein said she wrapped her son in a plastic bag from a trash can and left him in the toilet tank, according to the Huffington Post.
A cleaning crew found the baby’s body on August 19. An autopsy revealed the baby was born alive at 33 to 36 weeks.
According to District Attorney John Morganelli, Hein was at Starters Pub in Bethlehem, Pa., on August 18 watching a wrestling match with friends when she complained of back pain and left the table to go to the restroom. She was reportedly gone for an extended period of time. When she returned, she grabbed her purse and went outside to smoke.
Those who knew Hein said they did not know she was pregnant or that she had given birth in the restroom. A friend noticed she was bleeding and asked if she needed to go to the hospital, but Hein reportedly told the man she did not have health insurance.
Hein has been arraigned and is being held without bail.
