EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. – A mother of two has been hospitalized with multiple cuts after being attacked inside her home with a broken bottle.
A 43-year-old woman was attacked by an unknown person inside of her home around 8 a.m. on Monday. Police said a man wearing a hoodie forced his way into a rear window of the home located in the block of N. Maple, while the woman was asleep in her bed. The man attacked the woman with a broken bottle resulting in multiple cut wounds.
Neighbors of the victims say the intruder has grabbed an antique whiskey bottle from inside the home and broken it. They said he slashed the woman all over the body, including her face, mouth, arms, hands, and legs.
A neighbor of the victim, who asked to remain anonymous, says he was driving by when he heard the victim’s frantic screams and saw her bleeding body on the ground half-way out of her front door.
“Oh her legs and arms you know and hands and face were all bloody,” said the neighbor. “I screamed at him leave her alone,”
The neighbor says he intruder kept trying to drag the injured mom back inside her house. And also says the man even threatened him, when he raced to comfort the victim.
“He looked me to my face and says come over here and I kill you,” said the neighbor. “I was like trying to grab something and he took off.”
That’s when neighbors said they called the police. They also grabbed towels, whatever they could, to help the victim, who is a registered nurse, put pressure on her bleeding wounds.
The victim’s friend, Regina Perez, says she is thankful neighbors were around to help her friend.
“Her face is really, it’s like somebody sliced her a million times,” said Perez. “I’m just thankful to god that the neighbors next door helped her.”
“She grabbed her own hand and neck and tried to put pressure by herself,” said the unnamed neighbor.
Police say the victim’s sixth grade son and eighth grade daughter were at school when their mom was attacked.
“It’s very strange,” said police Capt. Clint Reno.
Strange because the intruder didn’t rob the victim or take anything from her home before he took off on foot.
“We don’t really have a motive, don’t really know why this occurred and what the connection is, very odd,” said Capt. Reno.
The woman was transported to an area hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.
She said did not get a good look at the man who attacked her, and police are unsure whether or not he was someone she knew. Police had a person of interest and served a search warrant on Monday night, but at this time no arrests have been made.
