KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police say it appears an innocent victim got shot during a violent drive-by shooting Tuesday afternoon. The woman is now in the hospital.

Police say the woman is still in critical condition with life-threatening injuries after gun shots rang out near east 37th and Monroe Avenue. Neighbors say they heard at least 25 gunshots.

When the bullets stopped flying police say the woman, who was sitting inside a house at the time, was hit once in her mid-section.

Police were still at the crime scene on Tuesday evening and the section of Monroe Avenue near the scene was still blocked off.

Crime scene technicians took several pictures and found lots of shell casings on the ground.

One neighbor says the victim doesn’t live here and was apparently visiting her sister when she got shot. However as of Tuesday evening police had not confirmed that information.

They are asking anyone who knows anything about the drive-by shooting to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
