RIVERSIDE, Mo. — Lauren’s Hope makes medical alert identification tags, indicating a person’s medical conditions for others to know in the event of an emergency. The business has been a staple in Riverside for 14 years and counting. A Florida woman moved to the metro to work for the business that she credits as a personal lifesaver.
Tara Cohen can give a tour of the business now, but started out as a customer.
“I got really sick. Just that disoriented, I haven’t eaten in days, when’s the last time I drank, what day is it kind of flu,” Cohen said.
Cohen’s medical alert tag on her key chain shows she’s allergic to a drug that controls nausea, the same drug a nurse planned to give her. Tara credits the tag for saving her life.
“I would have gone into shock and we were 15 minutes from the nearest hospital,” she said.
Cohen moved to the area to work for Lauren’s Hope, the business that made her tag.
“Everyone here in the office will answer the phone and speak to our customers on a daily basis and we’re constantly being humbled,” said Jenna White.
White’s mother launched Lauren’s Hope after making a medical alert bracelet for a friend. Now a team of 23 people make a number of medical alert products for customers around the world.
“We really feel like what we`re doing is helping people and that just makes every day the greatest,” White said.
Cards, letters, even pictures that express thanks for combining safety with style. For Cohen, her journey with Lauren’s Hope continues.
“Working as part of that team. Doing something that saves lives every day. That is a tremendous gift,” she said.
