KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City woman spent her Christmas weekend searching for one of her two dogs. She found the first pup after the dogs were allegedly taken by someone in a station wagon.
The second dog was recovered on Monday afternoon. The woman was at Hyde Park on Christmas eve when she hears a car pull up. She says the next thing she knew, her dogs were gone.
Jeanne Gardner has two dogs. One is a yellow lab named Sugar and a German shorthair named Bobby. Gardner says the dogs are her life.
“They keep me company since my boys left,” Gardner says.
She says she was surprised by what happened at the park on Saturday.
“I saw a car pass and then I heard a car door close,” Gardner said. “I thought surely that wouldn’t be my dogs.”
Gardner says she screamed when she noticed both dogs had vanished. She says she then followed the car that she believes had her dogs.
“I was worried because I know there are stories about dogs being abused and sold and resold,” she said. “I thought for sure that I had lost them because he is such a good dog.”
A neighbor found Sugar not far away. The only sign of Bobby was his collar found on the street.
Gardner created a Craigslist ad offering a reward for Bobby’s return. Monday afternoon she got word he was found.
“I don’t know what happened,” she said. “I gave him money and he was gone.”
Gardner says she filed a police report regarding the dogs’ disappearance.
