PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. — One woman is safe after a house fire started in her Prairie Village home early Monday morning.

Firefighters said the fire started in the back of her home, located in the 8000 block of Windsor Street. The woman escaped without injury, however five to six cats were found dead inside.

After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters battled stubborn hotspots, but said the fire was under control.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
