HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. — Is it a sin for an elected official to be “living in sin?”
One Florida resident thinks so, and is asking for an investigation that could, at least in theory, land a city commissioner in jail.
According to the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, on Friday, Hallandale Beach resident Linda Takahashi asked city attorney Lynn Whitfield to investigate city commissioner Keith London because she says he is violation of a seldom-enforced Florida law that makes “cohabitation” of unmarried couples a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by $500 or up to 60 days in jail.
London, who told the Sun-Sentinel that he is in a committed relationship with his “soul mate,” did not comment. Takahashi was advised to take her complaint up with the state’s Attorney General’s Office.
