Maggie Karner has a form of aggressive brain cancer — the same kind as Brittany Maynard, the Oregon woman who made national headlines after scheduling her own death. Karner encouraged her to choose life.

Maynard had chosen Nov. 1 as the day of her death, choosing to drink a fatal mixture of medicine prescribed by her doctor. But Maynard has recently delayed her death, saying that it doesn’t feel like the right time. She’s still able to enjoy moments with family and friends, however she still plans to choose the day of her own death, saying she wants to die with dignity.

Karner, on the other hand, has another approach. One she shared publicly with Maynard.

“Honestly, I really do get it,” Karner wrote in an op-ed in the Hartford Courant. “Brain cancer sucks in a really big way. It’s a beast that lurks and prowls… but you know what? Death sucks, too. It rips us from the people and the passions that we love the most.”

Karner continued with a plea.

““Please don’t leave us yet,” she said. “Let’s choose life for as long as we’ve got.”
