LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — The Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of a woman who was found dead in a field on Sunday morning at about 8:30, and authorities believe she was a murder victim. The sheriff’s office identified her as 22-year-old Karissa Warren, a Kansas City, Kan., resident.

The sheriff’s office says deputies were sent to a rural field entrance near K-5 Highway on Marxen Road where the woman was found. A news release says the scene is close to the Leavenworth/Wyandotte county line.

“Obviously when you don’t have an eye witness to a crime, it makes it more difficult,” said Major J.W. Sherley with the Leavenworth Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Major Sherley says the homicide investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the woman’s death is urged to contact the office at (913) 682-25724 or leave a tip at its website.
