KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s not often you see a dog in sunglasses or in a sundress, but that’s exactly what you could find at the seventh annual Woofstock at Zona Rosa on Sunday.

11-year-old Kassie Patel and her cocker spaniel came dressed alike as senoritas.

“I do this almost every year with her and we almost always win,” she said.

Liz Jalbert drove in from St. Joseph with two of her four ‘children’.

“They’re our babies. They do everything with us. We take them on vacation. We don’t go anywhere unless we can take them,” said Jalbert about her dogs.

Woofstock is an annual outdoor festival for people and their dogs. Organizers said it also helps raise awareness for the thousands of animals in the metro without a home.

“All the shelters are overcapacity with animals,” said Goldie Arnold with the Northland Animal Welfare Society. “Any breed you want. If you want a specific breed there’s a rescue group for it,” she said.

17 rescue groups took applications from attendees hoping to adopt a pet.
