KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The NFL has suspended Kansas City Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali for the first regular-season game of the year for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, the league announced on Monday.
In a statement, the NFL says that Hali will be eligible to return to the Chiefs’ active roster on Monday, September 10 following the team’s September 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Hali will remain eligible to participate in all preseason games and practices, the league said. The suspension will cost him one additional game check as well.
“Tamba’s situation is unfortunate,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli in a statement released on Monday morning. “Obviously, we are disappointed and will miss him during this suspension, but the NFL’s policies are very clear and we respect the league’s decision in this matter. We are unable to comment further on this matter or any aspect of the NFL’s Drug Policy.”
The league did not say what substance Hali is accused of abusing.
