KANSAS CITY, Mo. — At times it wasn’t pretty, but the home team defense stepped up big time and the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Oakland Raiders 24-7 at Arrowhead on Sunday.
The Chiefs, unofficially, sacked Raider QB Terrell Pryor 10 times. After a scoreless first quarter, the Chiefs found themselves trailing 7-0 after Pryor hit Denarius Moore with a 39-yard touchdown pass. The Chiefs scored later in the quarter when Jamaal Charles scored on a seven-yard run.
After being tied at halftime, the Chiefs forced Pryor to throw three second-half interceptions, one returned for a touchdown by Husain Abdullah. Charles also scored in a two-yard touchdown run, and placekicker Ryan Succop added a 33-yard field goal.
The win means the Chiefs can do no worse than keep pace with the Denver Broncos for first place on top of the AFC West. Denver on Sunday hosted the winless Jacksonville Jaguars.
