Tebow-mania is finally coming to Kansas City as Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow makes his Arrowhead Stadium starting debut when the Chiefs host the Broncos this Sunday.
Since Tebow was named the starter, the Broncos are 2-1 – although that is more thanks to his legs than his passing ability, which has been inconsistent, at best. Tebow is coming off a 118 yard rushing performance in a road win against the Oakland Raiders, and his first win was a ferocious 15 point comeback in Miami.
The Chiefs are hoping Tebow’s success on the road doesn’t continue this Sunday.
Chiefs head coach Todd Haley talked about Tebow’s toughness this week saying, “I think Tebow is big, strong, tough, his toughness is a quality that really makes him challenging because it affects so many things.”
The Chiefs have tried to mimic the option this week in anticipation of Denver’s two headed rushing monster. Tebow is averaging 7.1 yards per carry this season, while Willis McGahee is averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Kansas City currently ranks 19th in the NFL in rush defense, but ranks 32nd in sacks.
The Broncos have given up 13 sacks over Tebow’s 3 starts.
Although his passing stats aren’t flashy, the Chiefs need to stop the run and put pressure on Tebow to make sure they stay in the mix atop the AFC West.
