KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs have selected defensive tackle Dontari Poe in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night in New York City.
The number 11 overall pick, Poe, who played nose tackle at the University of Memphis, left school after his junior season with the Tigers, where he recorded 101 tackles, five sacks and four forced-fumbles in 35 games.
The 6’4″, 346 pound Poe had an impressive showing at the NFL Scouting Combine, including running the 40-yard dash in an impressive 4.9 seconds – impressive for a man his size.
Poe is expected to fit in the middle of Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel’s 3-4 defense. Click here for reaction from Chiefs fans on Twitter and Facebook to the Poe pick.
As expected, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was taken by the Indianapolis Colts with the first overall pick of the NFL Draft.
